Welcome to the coverage of day 3 of the 1st Test between England and India. Play starts at 3.30 pm IST.
Pitch - It's absolute biscuit brown in colour and hasn't changed much. It will be hard work for the bowlers. The rough patches outside the left-hander's off might come into play and Jadeja's role for India would be key. It's a bit cloudy and the ball might swing early on.
Ravindra Jadeja on Star Sports: We did well in Champions Trophy last summer and we need to use our skill and talent on English wickets to succeed. Bell doesn't have a very different technique as compared to other batsmen, I have got him out before. My strength is to bowl wicket-to-wicket line but Test cricket is different, it spins from the first day in India but it starts spinning on the 3rd or 4th day in England so I need to adjust accordingly and bowl on the English wickets.
Sam Robson and Gary Ballance did well to make sure there were no more slip-ups yesterday. Ballance, however, edged a couple which didn't carry to the slip cordon. With overcast conditions early on, the Robson and Ballance would be tested early on, it would be interesting to see how they respond.
Right! The two overnight batsmen - Sam Robson and Gary Ballance have made their way out to the middle. Mohammad Shami will start off proceedings for India.
Shami starts off with a loosener down the leg side, Robson misses his flick.
First runs of the day, good running. Robson pushes it towards covers and scampers through for a single.
Nice probing delivery outside off, Ballance leaves it alone.
Just one run off the first over of the day. Shami didn't find much movement.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar will bowl from the other end.
Robson pushes it to covers and takes a couple.
Just one run off Bhuvneshwar over. He too didn't find any movement.
Shami will continue. The first ball doesn't bounce and Dhoni has to stop it awkwardly. That's been the case with this pitch through out the Test so far.
Ah...This one swings in late and Robson responds with a lovely drive, unluckily for him, the ball hits the stumps at the non-striker's end.
There's a leg slip in for Robson and there seems to be definitely a plan against him.
FOUR! Short from Shami, in the rib region, Robson does really well to stand tall and tuck it past the leg slip fielder, Bhuvi in the deep dives but can't stop the ball.
Four runs off the Shami over.
Bhuveshwar will continue.
Ballance plays out a maiden.
There's a slight breeze blowing around and it's surprising the ball isn't doing much.
Robson and Ballance have looked assured in defense so far.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes from round the wicket now.
1st run after 18 balls.......Ballance clips it to fine leg for a single and there is a hearty round of applause from the Trent Bridge crowd.
Stifled appeal for an LBW! Not out! Ballance shuffles a tad and looks to clip but misses and gets hit on the pads. The umpire turns down the appeal.
FOUR! Lovely shot! Full from Shami, Robson leans forward and drives it through covers. Crunching boundary.
FOUR! Two in two! Shami errs in line, drifts onto his pads, Robson clips it through square leg and it races away. The partnership is now 50 from 124 balls.
10 runs off the over. A good one for England.
The two young batsmen have done really well so far, it wasn't easy last evening and they saw off a crucial last hour. They are looking determined today too!
Bhuvneshwar Kumar will continue.
He comes round the wicket from the second ball.
Nicely played. Good length delivery on off, Ballance stands tall and punches it through mid on for a couple.
FOUR! Wristy stuff! Full on middle and leg, Robson flicks it through mid-wicket & it whizzes away to the fence.
Dhoni has placed a short mid-wicket now. There is a leg slip too.....
Meanwhile, Broad seems relaxed on England's balcony. He seems to have a lot of faith on these youngsters as he sips his tea and reads a biography of Harold Larwood!!!
Good running. This is good stuff from Robson. He's done this really well pushing it to covers with soft hands and scampering through for quick single. Good rotation of strike.
Five runs from the over. England getting a move on after a cautious start.
