Root turning down easy singles. I've always wondered about this practice. It works for some players but then others like Steve Waugh and Shivnarine Chanderpaul like to rotate the strike no matter who is batting.

I suppose it depends on the quality of the tailender at the other end. Waugh reckoned empowering them and giving them responsibility made them rise to the challenge.
