Hello and welcome to the coverage of day 2 of the third Test between England and India at The Rose Bowl. The match starts at 3.30 PM. Follow this link for Live scores and updates.
Pitch - The track looks good for batting, there are a few rough patches outside the left-hander's off. It was baffling why Jadeja didn't bowl in that area and stuck to a negative kind of line. There is still grass on the wicket which might assist the bowlers early on. India need to utilise this period effectively, unlike yesterday.
Right! The overnight batsmen - Gary Ballance and Ian Bell have made their way out to the middle. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will start off proceedings for India.
A bit of shape back in to start off, Ballance clips it to square leg.
Bhuvneshwar starts off with a maiden.
Pankaj Singh, who was unlucky yesterday, will bowl from the other end.
Beaten! Lovely delivery. Short of a good length delivery outside off, nips away. Bell looks to poke away from the body but misses. A maiden to start off from Pankaj. Good start from him.
First run of the day as Ballance defends it to covers for a quick single.
FOUR! Edgy! Pankaj is unlucky here. Good length delivery outside off, a bit of extra bounce and shapes away. Bell looks to steer but gets an outside edge between the slip cordon and gully for a streaky boundary.
FOUR! Back to back! Poor delivery On the pads, Bell flicks it to fine leg for a boundary.
Good comeback from Pankaj in that over. 8 runs off it.
FOUR! Lovely shot. Class oozing out of it. Overpitched outside off, Bell leans forward and drives it through covers for a boundary.
Bell too is batting way outside the crease. We might soon see Dhoni come up to the stumps.
The 50-run stand comes up between Ballance & Bell. ENG- 263/2
FOUR! Nicely done by Ballance. He rocks back and cuts it close to the body through gully for a boundary. With that four, Ballance surpasses his highest Test score.
FOUR! Back to back! Full on middle and leg, swinging back in. Ballance nudges it to fine leg for another boundary.
FOUR! Ballance this time flicks it through mid-wicket for a boundary.
Mohammad Shami into the attack now.
Play and a miss! A tad short on off, Bell goes for a pull but misses.
This is good stuff from Bell, Comes forward and just pushes it through covers. They take three.
Bhuvneshwar comes from round the wicket now.
A leg slip in place for Ballance now.
Ah....That leg slip fielder comes into play. A tad full on the pads, Ballance looks to clip but misses, the ball hits his pads and pops to leg slip where Kohli dives and pouches. A stifled appeal for a catch but the umpire remains unmoved.
FOUR! Cracking shot. Bell stands tall and punches it through point for a boundary.
Ballance clips it through mid-wicket and they take three. Pujara chases, slides and pulls it back. He needs to be careful with his sliding. Has had problems with his knee.
Pankaj Singh will continue. Very full on off, Ballance jams it past the bowler for a couple.
FOUR! Brilliant shot! Full on the pads, swinging in. Ballance whips it uppishly over mid-wicket for a boundary.
FOUR! Two in two! Ballance stays back and guides it through vacant gully region. he moves on to 134.
Jadeja into the attack now.
A maiden over to start off.
Drinks....England have scored 55 runs in the first hour. India need some inspiration from somewhere.
India reverting to short ball strategy but Ballance comfortably ducks under all of the bouncers from Pankaj Singh.
SIX! Bell at his best, dances down the track & lofts it over long on for a six off Jadeja.
Ian Bell slowly getting back in form, brings up his 42nd Test fifty. Eng - 311/2
The 100-run stand comes up between Ballance(135*) & Bell(52*). Eng - 314/2
