If there is one player everyone wants to be in the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League then that player is Glenn Maxwell. He has been simply outstanding -- everytime he comes out to bat, there is the opportunity to watch something amazing happen. And that is something. KXIP have had an outstanding tournament -- KKR on the other hand are really living on a prayer. But Gambhir's team would love to cause an upset and restore some lost pride.
The match will begin at 1600 hrs IST.
Can Gambhir continue to show some form? It is important for his future... and for KKR's too.
Almost time for the toss now. Gambhir: My performances don't matter if I can't take the team across the line.
TOSS: Gambhir wins toss and KKR will bowl first. Maxwell gets first go.
Rishi Dhawan and Parwinder Awana are back for KXIP. Those are the two changes for KXIP.
Morne Morkel is back and Shakib Al Hasan is dropped for KKR. They will need to be at their best today.
But most of all, we would love Viru Sehwag to have a good day today. It's about time he matched Maxwell's madness.
KXIP XI: Sehwag, Mandeep, Maxwell, Miller, Bailey (capt), Saha (wk), Patel, Johnson, Dhawan, Awana, Sandeep
KKR XI: Gambhir (capt), Uthappa (wk), Pandey, Kallis, Pathan, Yadav, Doeschate, Morkel, Chawla, Narine, Umesh
Wow. Very few people seem to believe that Maxwell can fail. KXIP openers walking out in the middle.
First ball and Sehwag smashes it through the covers. What a shot! Stunning.
Kallis getting his line very wrong. The first ball was wide outside the off-stump and now another on the legs. Another four. KXIP 9-0 after 0.4 ovs.
Poooor bowling by Kallis. Another one down the legs and Sehwag helps it along for another four. KXIP 13-0 after 0.5 overs.
And finishes it off with another four. Super batting by Sehwag, poor bowling by Kallis. You don't want to give KXIP a good start but KKR just have. KXIP 17-0 after 1 over.
Interesting stat: So far in IPL 7, 65 % of KXIP runs have come in fours/sixes.
WICKET! Mandeep Singh walking back. Caught by the keeper. He got a duck. KXIP 17-1. Maxwell is not in. It's Saha.
Morkel is bowling superbly. Bounce, pace and a good line. Four runs and a wicket! KXIP 21-1 after 2 overs.
One over from Kallis was enough. Umesh Yadav is into the attack.
But Umesh also bowling down the leg-side. Kallis is not bowling but the spirit remains. Sehwag is enjoying this. Another four. KXIP 27-1.
After 3 overs, KXIP have 30-1 without fuss. The KKR bowlers have not bowled a good line and Sehwag has taken full toll.
Morkel was on target in the first over and now he bowl to Sehwag, who has looked good so far.
Edged, dropped and four. One reason why you shouldn't have a makeshift keeper -- Robin Uthappa dived but he just wasn't good enough. Good bowling by Morkel. Sehwag 27 off 13. KXIP 34-1.
Another solid over by Morkel. After 4 overs, KXIP are 35-1. Now if another KKR bowler could give him some support.
KXIP are off to a good start -- another good platform for Maxwell.
Top edge went miles up in the air and dropped in no man's land. Saha survives. KXIP 37-1 after 4.2 ovs.
Another bad ball by Umesh -- too short and you don't bowl that line when your fine leg is in the circle. Bad bowling. Gambhir seems pissed. KXIP 43-1 after 4.4 overs.
Another four for Saha. This was right in the arc. KXIP 47-1 after 4.5 overs.
After 5 overs, KXIP are 48-1 and Maxwell hasn't even come in to bat yet.
WICKET! Saha gone. Morkel the man -- it had to be him. Played on, it seamed back in. Maxwell walks in, KXIP 48-2.
And we have a strategic timeout. Right on cue.
The biggest worry for KKR is that Morkel has looked like their best bowler and he is already into his third over. Now, how to deal with Maxwell? Narine should come in right away.
After 6 overs, KXIP are 49-2. Wicket and just 1 runs from the Morkel over. Super bowling.
Narine comes into the attack.
What will KXIP's approach to Narine be? Will they look to take him on?
After 7 overs, KXIP are 53-2. That is two good overs back-to-back for KKR.
Sehwag finally decides, he is going to go for it again. A six and a single off the last ball give KXIP some moment again. After 8 overs, KXIP 62-2.
FOUR! Sehwag didn't know much about it though. Edged and four. Sehwag has 44 now. KXIP 66-2.
After 9 overs, KXIP are 73-2. They got 11 runs off the last over from Narine.
Maxwell slogs that across the line -- typical shot. Yusuf can't get down in time to stop the boundary. KXIP 78-2
Sehwag has a 50 off 35 balls. His first in 18 innings. KKR helped him along initially.
WICKET! Maxwell goes cheaply. He made 14 off 14, found the fielder in the deep. Chawla the bowler. KXIP 87-3. It was a half-tracker but that is what leg-spinners can do. Get wickets with half-trackers.
But here's the problem for everyone who faces KXIP, when Maxwell goes early, there is still Miller to contend with
After 11 overs, KXIP 90-3. Not a bad first over from Chawla -- 5 runs and the wicket of Maxwell.
