Imagine for a moment that you are Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team-mate or his opponent or even the man sitting in the stadium... what will be going through your mind at this stage? Is India being led by a liar? Is India being led by a man who would do anything to please the powers that be? For me that is the most perplexing thought that emerges from the SC's observations. It is a sad, sad day for Indian cricket. Perhaps the saddest day since Azhar said goodbye to the sport.

Karthik, let's not draw any conclusions. Right. Dhoni might be innocent after all. But what prompted him to lie in the first place? Can he really say he knew nothing about it? Can he continue to feign ignorance and for how long? He must be questioned and investigated. Not by us. But by the proper authorities.

Abhilasha, It's a pity that no of the senior cricketers in the country really seem to regard cricket as their game. It is a game they played but not a game that they are prepared to take ownership of. Who does cricket in India belong to... the BCCI, the cricketers or the fans?

I don't know whether Dhoni should step down. But I do know that he needs to say something... anything that will convince of his innocence and help them believe in sport again. This damages not just Dhoni but also faith of every fan in the country and beyond. He just can't let it go on....

But then again... the BCCI doesn't care about the fans -- just see the state of the stadiums and you know. They don't care about anything other than money. Hit them where it hurts.... take away the money-spinning IPL and see them fall in line. Right now, they simply have too much in the bank coffers....

I think Dhoni should step down until his name is cleared or he is found to be guilty. You can't have a captain with a shadow hanging over him. For better or worse, there is no international cricket after the World T20 for a few months, so perhaps that will happen in effect, if not in fact.

No one wants to lynch Dhoni. He is a popular, beloved figure. Srinivasan's downfall will be much rejoiced but Dhoni's is going to sadden many. But he has to prove his innocence or admit to complicity -- he has no other option. And Indian cricket needs this from him.
-
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was and perhaps still is one of the nicest stories to emerge out of Indian cricket. A young man from Jharkhand emerging to become the most powerful figure in the sport. He is the richest Indian cricketers around, he loves his bikes and military career. Unfortunately, he also seems to be very loyal to N Srinivasan. It just doesn't seem right. One hopes Dhoni isn't involved at any level. But at the moment, one seems to be hoping against hope.
-
Everything comes to down to the interim order the Supreme Court issues tomorrow. Nobody from within Indian cricket will or can change anything. Wishing there were more people with a spine doesn't help. This is the reality. The SC has effectively challenged the integrity of the two most powerful men in Indian cricket - Srinivasan and Dhoni. To expect anyone within the system to challenge them would be like expecting a lion to turn vegetarian. It simply can't happen.

Thanks for participating in the debate. The three major questions asked were these:
Should Dhoni, just like Sreesanth, be suspended pending further investigation?
Should Dhoni, just like Sreesanth, be suspended pending further investigation?
Would you watch IPL with the same interest? Or watch it at all?
