India take on Malaysia in their fourth match of the ongoing hockey World Cup. They lost the first two games against Belgium and England but managed to hold on for a draw against Spain.
India will, however, fancy, their chances against Malaysia. In 105 meetings, India have only lost 14 times to Malaysia. In World Cups, India have defeated Malaysia thrice in four outings, with their only defeat coming at the 2002 World Cup. This is one match, they must win.
The match begins at 6:00 pm IST. Join us for the live coverage then.
For India, despite the losses, Sreejesh (the goalkeeper) has been a star. He has often, in this tournament, been the difference between a close defeat and a rout.
And we are all set to go. India have just one point from three matches and Malaysia have zero points. The two bottom-placed teams.
And that's it. We are done with the anthems. This will be intense.
Malaysia get us away. India are once again back in all yellow.
India are playing from left to right. Every game is important from the world ranking aspect.
3 mins: Still 0-0. Nothing very exciting so far. Both teams still testing the waters.
5 mins: Ind 0-0 Malayasia. Very disjointed. No clear attacks from either side. They are playing like the two bottom-placed teams indeed.
The commentators are praising Terry Walsh a lot. They are saying he has put a structure in place and that is good for Indian hockey.
8 mins: India still haven't managed to get a shot off on goal.
9 mins: Finally, some good linkup play. Mandeep can't deflect it towards the goal. First real chance for India.
10 mins: Now, Malaysia have a PC. This is dangerous. Razie can score goals.
10 mins: Good save by Sreejesh. He has been a star all along. Malaysia at least hit the target. They kept it low but Sreejesh was up to the challenge.
11 mins: Impressive show of skills by Lalit but it went nowhere. India making a few more forays into the Malaysian half now.
12 mins: India are moving the ball around much better. And they are rewarded with their first PC. Lalit earned it.
Raghunath is setting up. Rupinder not on the park.
13 mins: It wasn't trapped properly but Raghunath does well. India have another PC.
14 mins: GOAL! Oh god! They can't trap properly but Jasjit scores from the forehand side. He found some space and hammered it in. India 1-0 Malaysia
15 mins: Good pace shown by Sunil, can't get the final ball right. But he earns another PC. India in command at the moment. Rupinder back on.
16 mins: Horrible PC again. Last two PC's have been very bad -- a mis-trap and this time it wasn't injected properly. Another let-off for Malaysia.
20 mins: Great play by the Indians. India are running at Malaysia and they have no answer to this at the moment. Sunil showing his speed for the first time in the tournament.
22 mins: India are really playing like champs. Quickly passing the ball around from side to side and Malaysia are just chasing the ball at the moment.
23 mins: Another good snap hit by Gurbaj. Manpreet crossed it in well but Gurbaj couldn't keep his shot down.
25 mins: India are in control now. Malaysia only making the rare forays into the Indian half. They need another goal for security though. Can they get it?
This is how India needed to play in their first three matches as well but we just had not seen a similar type or amount of ball movement. Today, they have been splendid.
28 mins: Another Malaysian player going off the park. That makes two who are out injured. They started with just 17 players.
29 mins: Superb play by Sardar Singh. He goes past 4 players and then unleashes a shot on the goal. The save is deemed dangerous and India have a PC. Raghunath at the top of the circle.
29 mins: Poor injection again, the PC was broken down again. India have been horrible with their execution in this tournament. Can't beat top teams with this.
32 mins: India holding on to their 1-0 lead with ease at the moment. But the dying moments of any half are a dangerous time if you are an Indian supporter.
And that is HT. India 1-0 Malaysia. India dominated the first half.
India are currently playing 4th game of Tournament and still not able to convert a single PC. That is just not good enough.
Terry Walsh: Corners are not slick and the injections are not good and that is a matter of concern now. But we are playing well, moving the ball well but we need to score more.
The second half is about to begin.
37 mins: India still moving the ball around well, Malaysia still on the defensive. Not too much has changed.
39 mins: And India have a PC. Can the injection be better this time round. Rupinder in the middle for this one.
40 mins: It was perfect this time, Rupinder got it off superbly as well but the Malaysian goalkeeper was up to the challenge. Score remains India 1-0 Malaysia
42 mins: Malaysia playing a little more aggressively at the moment. They will want to get a goal back as quickly as possible. But on the other hand, Sunil shows us that he is really quick. Super run from the half-line, beat his marker but couldn't hit the target.
44 mins: Malaysia get off a good attack once again. But good stop by the dependable Sreejesh. He just put it out for a long corner. Nervous moments for India. Ind 1-0 Mal
44 mins: Raghunath barges Firhan off the ball, concedes a PC. Danger.
46 mins: GOAL! Malaysia get a goal back. Razie the man. Ind 1-1 Mal. Sreejesh got something on it but he couldn't keep it from rolling in and neither could Uthappa.
48 mins: That goal has certainly roused the crowd. And India have conceded another PC. This isn't good hockey.
